Candlestick ornamented with stylized whirlpool designs. Of
forged iron inlaid in silver. From the Kaga domain, present
day Ishikawa Prefecture. Momoyama – early Edo period, late
16th – early 17th century.
Flamboyantly and stylish, this candlestick embodies the spirit
of Momoyama design. The fine quality of the iron and silver
inlay suggest that the piece was made by a sword smith for a
feudal lord or a high-level retainer.
